NPR; Fresh Air; On Point

I have a long commute to my job and find the radio monotonous. A friend suggested I buy an i-Pod, download podcasts, many for free, and listen during my commutes. I did and am amazed at the quality of some of the programs. My favorite is NPR's "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross. Another is "On Point," with Tom Ashbrook. They're always educational and entertaining. To me, they are the best things on the air.

    I, too, love NPR's podcasts. Have you tried This American Life yet? That's my absolute favorite.

    Have not, but will check it out.
    I also love B&N "Meet the Writers" + NYT Book Review weekly.
    Both are short and sweet.

    I will keep your idea in mind. Just now I do little technology, but I have a short commute.
    I just thought I would write to say that I do essays myself, on my blog site at essaysbysean.blogspot.com
    Although I could easily blend in as a north american, I try to write as a Canadian, even if it gives people a little jolt, partly because one of my favorite published essayists, Wendal Berry, said to write locally. As he would say:
    We are not a colony of New York City or "Anywhere, U.S.A."

    Hi Sean, I'm definitely not a techie but find the ipod really easy to use.
    iTunes itself is free and has many available free subscriptions.

    Glad to hear you're a fan of the essay. Check out some of the essays I linked to my blog. Think you'll enjoy them. Of course there are tons of great essays that that are unavailable on the web.
